Why the Scale Goes Up Overnight

I promise you didn’t gain 5+ pounds of body fat in the span of less than 24 hours.

Unless you ate over 3,500 calories and didn’t lift a SINGLE finger all day, then no, you didn’t gain any fat. 😭

And noooo you didn’t lose you progress from a weekend or night out. 💃 This is reason #9759378539 I remind my clients to be mindful of weighing themselves daily or to be mindful of how the scale will make them feel Monday morning. 🙂

Lets dive into some reasons that a weight gain occurred overnight:

👉You worked out super hard yesterday. This just means you’re getting #swole. 💪💯 No, I won’t gym bro you like that, but seriously this is just water retention from your muscles repairing and your body compensating from water loss.

👉You had poor sleep or a stressful day. Increased cortisol levels will make inflammation rise and water retention go hardcore. With poor sleep for your body and mind not to rest and repair, your body is left in flight or fight mode and is just holding onto water until you can relax a bit.

👉You’re period is here or you’re PMSing. It’s completely normal to gain around 3-5 pounds of water weight before or during your period. This will pass!

👉You ate your last meal later than usual. If you had a big meal at say 11 PM or so and weigh yourself at 6 AM when you wake up, chances are not everything is fully digested yet.

👉You need to poop. 🚽 Kind of plain and simple here, but there’s a full proof plan of extra water + fiber to get things movin’ and shakin’.

👉You didn’t drink enough water. You’re dehydrated, honey buns! The body will naturally hold onto water until you are properly re-hydrated.

💥LONG STORY SHORT💥: it’ll all pass and you’re going to be on your way to your goals and stabilized weight soon. Be gentle and patient with yourself — and don’t let the scale be your enemy.

💕You’re more than a number. 💕
