“...body neutrality is the idea that you can exist without having to think too much about your body one way or another, positive or negative. You can simply exist and be worthy of respect without thinking about your body at all. Or, feeling good about it one day and not as good about it the next.”
body neutrality is different from body positivity.
body positivity puts emphasis on loving your body every single day and in every form it takes.
the thing is, this can be really difficult to practice every day, especially on days where we genuinely can’t find love for our bodies in our mind.
that’s okay, and it’s going to happen — this is where body neutrality comes in to play.
where body positivity puts emphasis on appearance -
🗣“I love my arms no matter how big or small, because they are beautiful.”
body neutrality puts emphasis on your body’s abilities in a non-physical sense -
🗣“I love my arms because they help me carry all my groceries inside in one trip.”
can we practice both? hell yeah.
on days where you can’t find the motivation to practice self-love and love to your body, you can at least practice encouraging thoughts on what your body can do for you.
🗣“I may not love my appearance today, but my body is still carrying me and being there for me to get through the day 24/7.”
