Benefits of L-Glutamine

What is L-Glutamine?

“an a-amino acid used in the biosynthesis of proteins.” in layman’s terms, the building block of protein.

But it’s also super beneficial to the body and gut health. In one 2019 study, it found that glutamine helped with, “management of obesity, bacterial translocation and community, cytokines profiles, and the management of side effects during post-chemotherapy and constipation periods.”

What I really want to break down is its benefits on our gut health. L-glutamine can help with:

  • cell regrowth to strengthen the permeability of the gut’s lining — aka preventing and helping to heal leaky gut.

  • benefiting the permeability of the gut also ensures the digestive track is only absorbing the right molecules for it.

  • assists with IBS symptoms and other inflammatory bowel diseases

  • helps to maintain healthy gut microbiota for increased immunity.

  • not only all of this for your gut, but it has also ben shown to help stabilize blood glucose levels which in turn can help to promote weight-loss or proper weight management.

the body does make l-glutamine on it’s own, but during intense times of stress, levels and production can be depleted. while you can take this in supplement form, it’s also in foods like: eggs, tofu, bone broth, grass-fed beef, spirulina, cottage cheese, turkey, corn, rice, and more.

I’ve been taking L-glutamine and have already noticeably seen changes in my bloating decreasing, digestion being smoother, and strength in the gym increased as well.

Are you interested in giving it a try or adding more foods with it to your diet?
